Summary: Story of Bainbridge Island, Washington youth pastor Nick Hacheney and the death of his wife. Complete title of book: A TWISTED FAITH: A Minster’s Obsession and the Murder That Destroyed a Church.

The story of Pastor Nick Hacheney could be a commentary on the state of trust we have in our social, business and governmental institutions. The fact that Hacheney’s story unfolds in a small religious community is both tragic and emblematic of how minor catastrophes congeal and ooze into the national conscience. Nothing new here. What is new is the other side, the absence of arbitrators, judges. Consider.

Katrina’s Secrets – Storms after the Storm – Book Review

Summary: New Orleans’s encounter with Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and its aftermath. Highly recommended reading.

The biggest surprise in reading this book is how fairly it presents the events of August 2005. From the news-media coverage in August 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, you would think the former mayor of New Orleans would have a few of scores to settle. This book, refreshingly, is not about settling scores. There are a couple of darts thrown however and they seem well deserved.

At the time, there was one question resulting from the horror of Katrina: how could the richest, most powerful nation in the world be so inept, so lackadaisical in responding to a predictable natural event? This question raised other questions, some with implications on the viability of America as the nation everyone assumes it to be. In reading KATRINA’S SECRETS, you reach the conclusion that it was not the nation that was sitting on its hands, befuddled by disaster. It was a political system.

Summary: the complete title of book is HOW THE UNSOLVED MURDER OF A DOCTOR, A SECRET LABORATORY IN NEW ORLEANS AND CANCER-CAUSING MONKEY VIRUSES ARE LINKED TO LEE HARVEY OSWALD, THE JFK ASSASSINATION AND EMERGING GLOBAL EPIDEMICS.

The last “serious” type “conspiracy book” reviewed by this journal was the incredible BEHOLD A PALE HORSE by Milton William Cooper published in 1991 by Mission Possible Commercial Printing (reviewed 11/15/1996). Mr. Cooper was shot and killed in a shoot-out with Apache County, Arizona Sheriff’s deputies on November 6, 2001. To quote from that 1996 book review:

“With the explosion in information communication it is only a matter of time before we have more good intentioned people writing tracks against the coming whatever, or exposing the real “truth”. (An excellent example is the heartfelt belief that TWA Flight 800 was brought down by a missile because mechanical failure is just too gosh darn simple in this complicated world). I imagine it to be a sort of geometric progression. From the grand alphabet soup of a propaganda tract, X number of people will pick out Y number of “facts” they regard as truth and go their merry, propaganda prone way. Soon, everything will be a Lie: anything can be the Truth. If you think about it, this is really what all these secreted Masters of the Universe are trying to achieve. It is what the revealers of grand conspiracies, like Mr. Cooper, achieve with little effort. Does this mean then that the seekers of truth are really part of the grand conspiracy? Mmmm, I wonder…”
